Industry Facts

Are you drawn to boats? Do you like being outdoors, the sights and sounds of a marina, the throaty roar of a powerful boat skimming across the water? If so, you're not alone. Boating is hot right now – and so are career opportunities. Whether you’re interested in working at a marina, a boat yard, a yacht club, or park, the numbers show this is a field with a future:
  • The number of marine repair technicians in the United States is expected to increase by 15 percent between 2004-2014, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics1. That translates into real jobs for those with the marine technician skills taught at MMI!
  • Best yet, these are jobs that aren't going anywhere: People can't send their marine vehicles out of the country for repair. So the jobs stay here, too.
  • Nearly one-third of adults went boating in 2006, up 1.8% from the previous year2.
  • Over the next decade, more people will be entering the 40-and-older group. Why is this important? Because this is the group that buys most of the marine crafts.
  • Manufacturers are clamoring for well-educated marine technicians, too: Exactly what MMI delivers!
