PTI OVERVIEW

As a Peterbilt Technician Institute (PTI) student, you’ll receive advanced Peterbilt training on the company’s products and technologies, including Peterbilt’s legendary trucks and the PACCAR MX-13 engine. The 12-week program will help you develop the manufacturer-specific skills valued by Peterbilt’s more than 350 dealerships across North America.9

Prepare for a career doing something you love. The Peterbilt PTI Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training program prepares you for a career as a Peterbilt mechanic at one of the 350 qualified Peterbilt dealerships across North America.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

INTRODUCTION TO PETERBILT

Receive PACCAR orientation and truck fundamentals, and complete training on specialized tooling and software, including DAVIE, Eportal, Engine Rapido, ESA, ServiceNet and Web ECAT. Learn essential vehicle operations, including starting and moving the vehicle. Study CDL requirements, vehicle safety and PDI, DOT inspections, and maintenance services such as Peterbilt scheduled maintenance intervals on both chassis and engine.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND TESTING

Get an electrical overview, including fundamentals, battery and starting/charging system testing, DMM, voltage drops, resistance, wiring diagrams, relay circuits, motors and components. Learn about the Peterbilt Conventional electrical system, including circuit index, electrical load centers, harness routing, cab/sleeper harnesses, wiring diagrams, NAMUX systems, ESA (Electronic Service Analyst) and instrumentation, electrical troubleshooting, and practical applications on Peterbilt truck products

CAREER PREPARATION, HVAC, CHASSIS, AND BRAKES

Learn about the different types of careers in the Peterbilt Service Department. Review HVAC fundamentals, and heating and air conditioning, including new A/C changes, system evacuation and charging, service procedures, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. Chassis training includes tires/wheels, alignment, frames, springs and shocks, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance. Study air brake system operation and components, foundation brake components, ABS and stability control, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance.

PACCAR MX CERTIFICATION AND MX-13 POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTICS

Subjects include PACCAR MX and MX-13 engine introduction, as well as training on the EPA17 engine and aftertreatment changes. Students will also learn about Engine Rapido and Parts Rapido, lubrication and cooling, intake, exhaust, turbochargers, engine braking assembly, fuel system, exhaust emissions and after treatment, DAVIE diagnostic troubleshooting software, 18 online course, engine warranty training and MX Certification test.

MANUFACTURER PAID

Peterbilt pays for the 12-week training program for qualified graduates who go to work at a participating Peterbilt dealership.15

HOW TO QUALIFY

Applicants to this selective program must complete a qualifying prerequisite core diesel program, maintain a high GPA, achieve near perfect attendance, and have a clean driving record.

Core Training Program

Students must complete one of the following Diesel Technology core curriculum programs from UTI, or another program certified by the ASE Education Foundation:

  • Technology I - CPGN: Diesel Only; All Diesel Courses
  • Technology I - CPGN: Auto/Diesel; All Diesel Core Courses
  • Technology II - CPGN: Diesel Only; All Diesel Courses
  • Technology II - CPGN: Auto/Diesel; All Diesel Core Courses

Grade Point Average

Students will need to have achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher at a post-secondary diesel program to be eligible to enter into the PTI program.

Attendance

Students will need to have achieved a 97% or higher attendance rate at a post-secondary diesel program to be eligible to enter into the PTI program.

Driving Record

Students must hold a valid driver’s license with no more than two moving violations within the past three years. Students with DUI convictions will not be eligible for the PTI program.
