Course topics cover:
Understanding Diesel Engine Fundamentals
The diesel engines course starts with a strong foundation. You’ll learn the basic principles of diesel engine operation, including manufacturer-specific designs and their unique features.
Cylinder Head, Piston, and Liner Assembly Service
Gain hands-on practice removing and installing cylinder heads, pistons and liner assemblies. You’ll learn the precise techniques required to ensure optimal engine performance.
Diagnosing and Servicing Engine Components
Students will perform diagnostic tests and service essential engine components, building confidence in their ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
Lubrication and Cooling Systems Overview
You’ll learn the functions and maintenance of lubrication and cooling systems to prevent wear and overheating, ensuring engines operate smoothly and reliably.
Air Induction, Exhaust, and Turbocharger Systems
Students are taught about the role of air induction, exhaust systems, turbochargers and charge air coolers in boosting engine performance and efficiency.
Starting Aids and Engine Brakes
This part of the diesel engines class covers the use and maintenance of starting aids and engine braking systems to optimize vehicle operation in various conditions.
Emissions Control Systems
You’ll start learning about current emissions control technologies, including EGR systems and exhaust gas after-treatment devices, to meet regulatory standards while maintaining engine performance. These systems are covered more in depth in the program’s later course, Diesel Engine Fuel Systems and Accessories.
