Racetracks and Racing Opportunities Near Exton, PA
Philadelphia is Pennsylvania’s largest city and the sixth-most-populous city in the United States. The city has a vibrant racing community and plenty of opportunities for racing enthusiasts to get involved.
Not far from Philadelphia is Exton, home to Universal Technical Institute (UTI) Exton. This 178,000-square-foot campus is equipped with state-of-the-industry tools and technology and offers automotive, diesel, welding, and robotics and automation training for those interested in a future in the skilled trades (Robotics & Automation program coming to UTI Exton).
Attending UTI is hard work, but it’s important for students to carve out time for play as well! If you’re thinking about attending UTI Exton and are passionate about racing, we’ve put together a list of tracks that you’ll definitely want to check out when you have some downtime from class.
Drag Racing
Roughly 48 miles southwest of UTI Exton, just over the Maryland state line, you’ll find Cecil County Dragway. Open March through November, this quarter-mile drag strip hosts street-legal drag races and more. Curious about your car’s quarter-mile time, or wondering who has the fastest car in your class? Keep the racing safe and off the streets with a night at Cecil County Dragway.
Maple Grove Raceway is a quarter-mile drag strip located about 24 miles northwest of campus. You can watch or even participate in the racing at this classic Pennsylvania track. Running May through October, Maple Grove comes alive and hosts racing of all types including motorcycles, youth racing and more!
Other Racetracks
Montgomery County Quarter Midget Racing Club, also known as Phoenixville Raceway, is located about 12 miles northeast of campus. This classic quarter midget dirt track is a great place to watch the racing action, and it’s also where many aspiring race car drivers get their start in the sport.
Those wanting to take a road trip can check out Dover International Speedway, which is located about 73 miles south of campus in Dover, Delaware. The track is home to NASCAR Cup Series races, as well as United States Auto Club (USAC) and Indy Racing League events. The racetrack is called the “Monster Mile” and features a 46-foot fiberglass creature named “Miles the Monster” that has served as the track’s mascot since 2000.
Pocono Raceway is waiting for UTI Exton students about 100 miles north of campus in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. The superspeedway is known as the “Tricky Triangle” due to its unique design, which resembles a triangle when viewed from overhead. The 2.5-mile track features three turns connected by straightaways of different lengths. The track hosts several NASCAR Series races.
New Jersey Motorsports Park sits on more than 500 acres in Millville, New Jersey, about 84 miles southeast of UTI Exton. The park features two racing circuits known as Thunderbolt and Lightning, which include a range of elevation changes and long front straightaways. The facility is one of the few in the world that can operate two tracks at the same time. Apart from catching motorsports races, visitors can enjoy the go-karting space known as Tempest Raceway, which also hosts competitions.
Bridgeport Motorsports Park is located in New Jersey, about 46 miles southeast of UTI Exton. Bridgeport hosts various types of dirt-track racing, including big blocks, outlaw stocks and even monster trucks!
About 24 miles northwest of campus, you’ll find Pagoda Motorcycle Club Motocross Track. Pagoda hosts youth and adult motocross racing, along with ATVs and even an occasional junk-car race! Off-road motor sports fans, be sure to check it out.
Last but certainly not least, Honey Brook Speedway is a quarter midget track about 11 miles west of UTI Exton. The youth quarter midget races are free to watch, and generally run from late spring through fall. Children and young adults can race on a paved oval in the quarter-scale midget cars powered by all-cooled engines. If you’re looking for a speedway where you can participate in the action, this is the place to be.
