An important certification is ASE diesel mechanic certification. ASE stands for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, which sets the standard for vehicle repair, service and parts distribution. To get certified, diesel technicians need to have two years of experience and pass the ASE exam.

Graduates of UTI’s Diesel Technology program can have their training count as one of the two years of experience required to test for ASE certification.¹⁶

UTI’s diesel mechanic training will cover core concepts through classes to prepare our students to practice what they’ve learned with hands-on training.¹⁸ Just like starting out in any industry, our grads are prepared to pursue entry-level roles. Over time, technicians may advance their careers with experience and hard work.⁷⁷ Entry-level jobs include:

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists in the United States was $58,970 as of May 2023.²⁹ Keep in mind that salary depends on several factors, including experience, employer, demand and cost of living in the area.

In 51 weeks, our Automotive Technology program teaches students how to diagnose and repair diverse systems and components to help them feel confident in pursuing entry-level positions within the automotive technology industry after graduation.⁷

UTI's Welding Technology program focuses on the four primary arc welding processes. In just 36 weeks, our welding students can graduate and pursue a career as a combination welder.

Our HVACR Technician training program goes through courses such as vent system selection, precise installation techniques, air handling strategies and specialized duct fabrication. In just 39 weeks, our grads are prepared to pursue a career in the HVACR field.
