Here’s how it works: After completing UTI’s core Diesel Technology program, graduates can apply to a Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training (MSAT) program with Peterbilt,15 Cummins46 or Daimler Trucks.18 Instructors teach students to service and repair diesel-powered equipment from the chosen manufacturer.
This specialized training helps students fine-tune their skills and can create career opportunities and may provide them with a competitive edge other entry-level technicians don’t have.

Overview of UTI's Diesel Specialized Training Programs
As already mentioned, before enrolling in a specialized program, students must complete the core Diesel Technology program, where they’ll learn the fundamentals of diesel engine and truck repair.
Upon completion, they can apply to an MSAT program, where they’ll take courses developed alongside leading manufacturers. Many of these programs can lead to brand-specific credentials and potential employment opportunities at dealerships nationwide.1 Credentials offered will vary by the program chosen. A few credentials* that MSAT students can earn might include:
- CMI Level 1 Technician Status (Cummins credential)
- Cummins qualifications in service and repair of heavy-duty engines
- Qualification to perform preventative maintenance on Cummins Power Generation equipment
- Qualification needed for DTNA Professional Level
- Detroit Diesel Engine certifications
- Nine Peterbilt certifications
