HEERF Information
We are no longer offering funds from the HEERF grant program. The grant allocation from the U.S. Department of Education has been distributed. If you have questions please email heerfgrant@uti.edu.
The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund was first authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), signed into law on December 27, 2020. HEERF financial aid grants to students could be used for any component of a student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or childcare.
How Much Money Did Each Qualifying Student Receive as a HEERF Financial Aid Grant?
Financial Aid grant amounts to qualifying students varied. Award amounts were determined by a formula that took into account each student’s financial need as demonstrated by their Expected Family Contribution (EFC), as well as his or her proximity to campus at time of enrollment. Students farther from campus may have received additional aid to offset expenses related to travel.
The award matrix used first looked at a student’s official EFC to determine whether a student was eligible for a HEERF grant and in what amount. If a student was eligible for the HEERF grant and had a proximity to campus of 50 miles or greater at time of enrollment, they may have received an additional grant.
Official EFC | HEERF Grant* | Additional >50 Miles Proximity Grant |
---|---|---|
0 | $1,400 | $900 |
1-3,000 | $1,200 | $800 |
3,001-5,576 | $1000 | $700 |
*Award amounts were estimates and may have varied based on availability of funds.
