According to the BLS, the median annual salary for bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists in the United States was $58,970 in May 2023.²⁹ This means half earned more and half earned less. Keep in mind that salary depends on several factors, including experience, employer, demand and cost of living in the area.

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) Finish First

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) Finish First is a 12-week Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training (MSAT) program taught at UTI Avondale.⁹ Students in the program can gain specialized knowledge on Freightliner and Western Star trucks, including their engines, chassis and advanced safety systems. Graduates receive DTNA Professional Level Technician status.

Cummins Power Generation

Cummins Power Generation is one of UTI Avondale’s MSAT programs.⁹⁶ Lasting 12 weeks, this program helps students develop technical knowledge necessary for a career in the power generation industry.⁹ The course covers a wide array of subjects, including installation, fixing, operation and upkeep of Cummins Power Generation products. Graduates are awarded qualifications needed to earn CMI Level 1 Technician status.

Cummins Engines

Cummins Engines is a 12-week MSAT program focused on Cummins-specific products.^{9, 96} Courses focus on key areas such as electronic controls, fuel systems and diagnostics that are important to Cummins engines. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates receive Cummins qualifications, preparing them to perform warranty work at a Cummins distributor or dealer.

Students of our Automotive Technology program at UTI Avondale can benefit from hands-on instruction in automotive technologies.¹⁸ Over a period of 51 weeks, they can learn the core technical skills that are often prerequisites for entry-level positions in this field.⁷ Graduates earn associate of occupational studies degrees.

The four main arc welding processes are emphasized in UTI Avondale’s Welding Technology program. Graduates earn diplomas.

The Airframe & Powerplant Technician program at UTI Avondale lasts 18 months and prepares students with hands-on experience for the aviation field.⁷⁹ Graduates earn diplomas.

Students at UTI Avondale can use the assistance of our Career Advisors to help them pursue part-time jobs while in school.

Eligible students currently enrolled in auto and diesel programs can also seek part-time industry work if accepted into the Early Employment Program.³⁶ This program provides a pathway for students to connect with participating employers, which can help them pursue industry work while pursuing their education. After completing their studies, they may be considered for a full-time job and have their education-related expenses repaid upon program completion.
