We’ve designed our program to blend online learning and hands-on training.¹⁸ During the 45-week Diesel Technology program, our students learn from experienced instructors who go over how to diagnose and repair diesel cars and trucks.⁷

An important certification that our grads may pursue is the ASE certification. ASE stands for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, which sets the standard for vehicle repair, service and parts distribution. To get certified, diesel technicians need to have two years of experience and pass the ASE exam.

Graduates of UTI’s Diesel Technology program can have their training count as one of the two years of experience required to test for ASE certification.¹⁶

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists in the United States was $58,970 as of May 2023.²⁹ Keep in mind that salary depends on several factors, including experience, employer, demand and cost of living in the area.
