Advantages of Advanced Automotive Training From a Toyota Instructor at UTI

James McBride’s love for the automotive industry is undeniable, and it’s this enthusiasm that drives his dedication as an automotive instructor at UTI. If you share a love for cars and are eager to turn that passion into a career, James is here to help guide you.1

As the lead instructor of the Toyota Professional Automotive Technician (TPAT) program, he’s committed to helping students on their journey to become certified Toyota technicians. Whether you’re already passionate about automotive work or just beginning to explore this path, James’ story and the TPAT program can offer you the inspiration and direction you need.

Toyota Professional Automotive Technician (TPAT) Program

The TPAT program is an advanced training program designed to teach students brand-specific skills in the automotive industry.

"It's an excellent opportunity for the student," James explains. "Once they complete their ASE certifications and get their internship, they will be certified Toyota technicians." This certification is a major accomplishment, one that typically takes technicians seven to 10 years to achieve in the field. At UTI, students can attain this level of knowledge much faster.

Hands-On Training with Real-World Benefits

What makes the TPAT program so effective is its emphasis on real-world, hands-on training. “They're actually getting the information as a technician would receive it going into these training classes," James says. Students use the same tools, equipment and training methods as those used at a Toyota dealership, giving them a head start on their career pursuits.

This advanced preparation benefits both students and future employers. With this training, graduates become desirable hires, as dealerships can trust that they already have the skills to perform essential tasks, including warranty work.

A Career Path with Growth and Support

As a TPAT instructor, James has gotten a “behind-the-scenes” look at the career structure Toyota offers its technicians. "I'm actually very impressed with the way Toyota has their system lined out. I like the way they work with the technicians in moving them up the line," he says.

Toyota provides a defined path for technicians to progress from certified to intermediate to master-level, ensuring continuous career growth.6

But James doesn't just want his students to settle. "Last thing I'd want is a technician to just get locked in one spot and then be satisfied where they're at. I want to encourage them to keep that level going up and up," he emphasizes.

The TPAT program at UTI is about more than just getting a job. It's about preparing students to pursue a fulfilling and dynamic career.

Join a Program with Strong Support and Career Services

James McBride has been with UTI for more than a decade, and his experience has been nothing short of positive. "UTI has been great to me. I've got great management. I enjoy what I do, and [there’s] very supportive staff and backing from everybody else," he shares. This supportive environment extends to the students, ensuring that they have all the resources they need to pursue a career doing something they love.
