Love at First Install: Charles Bosman’s Journey to Becoming an HVAC Technician

It was love at first sight for Charles Bosman and his HVAC career. Well, about as close as it gets.

"It started when I had my AC put in at my old house and I really liked it," he said.

Intrigued by the process, he shadowed the installer and before long fell in love with the profession. It wasn't long after that he found himself enrolling at a school he'd come to appreciate greatly.

“I’ve been doing it for three years now and I love it,” he proclaims.

He’s currently employed at Technical Hot and Cold as an HVAC technician, working on furnaces and AC units.1

Bosman’s time in the HVACR Technician program was nothing short of transformative. The passion in his voice is palpable as he recalls, “I had so much fun. The teachers were awesome. Working in the shop was one of my favorite things.”

The hands-on education he gained there, training on both older and newer furnaces, played a significant role in shaping his career. Not to mention being around people with the same interest in their future as he had.

“We got to meet a bunch of new students, which you become friends with and build your own team basically. It’s like your own little shop and it was really, really cool,” he says.

It’s evident that his training has made a significant impact on him as he shares, “My education means a lot to me…This is my career. This is my life.’”

However, the transition from education to employment wasn't without its challenges.

“Going from school to the real field was a big difference,” he says. “What I learned helped a lot.”

The knowledge he gained during his training proved invaluable, particularly the diagnostic skills he uses every day in his work.

His advice to anyone considering a similar career path? Keep going.

“Pay attention and keep a good head on your shoulders. Don’t give up,” says Charles. “It is difficult, but you get through it and you will learn every single day. Every furnace is different. Every AC is different but you learn…”

Bosman’s journey from a curious homeowner to a skilled HVAC technician is confirmation of the power of passion, perseverance and the right education.
