When it comes to salary, the BLS reported the median annual salary for bus and truck mechanics and diesel engine specialists in the United States as $58,970 in May 2023.29 This means half of the diesel technicians earned more and half earned less. Keep in mind that salary depends on several factors, including experience, employer, demand and cost of living in the area.
DIESEL MECHANIC JOBS IN COSTA MESA, CA

Most of our diesel mechanic training grads start in entry-level positions. Some common entry-level roles may include:
- Diesel technicians maintain, diagnose, and repair various diesel-powered vehicles and typically work for maintenance or repair shops.
- Heavy equipment repair technicians repair and overhaul industrial-sized diesel engines and equipment, such as cranes, tractors, and bulldozers.
- Agricultural technicians maintain and repair farm machinery, such as harvesters, planters, and tillers. They can work on-site or for dealerships
- Power generation technicians typically work for power plants, maintaining and repairing power-generating equipment like internal combustion engines, diesel or gas generators and other gaseous engines.
While most of our grads start out working as entry-level technicians or in other entry-level roles, as with any industry, over time, you may be able to advance in your career with hard work. Some entry-level techs eventually grow into fleet managers, mobile diesel mechanics, or service managers.77
